Xbox app on Windows 10 allows players to stream video games from Xbox One to Windows 10 PC. It’s a nifty feature to have as it allows users to control everything from their PC, including Xbox One Dashboard. However, there are users who have reported an issue where Xbox app closes immediately on Windows 10. Since the Xbox app keeps closing, users are unable to stream games.

How to fix Xbox app issue on Windows 10

Xbox app is a great way for people to enjoy their Xbox One games on Windows 10 PC. You can read about the latest and most popular games on Xbox One on TwentyNext. There are few ways to fix this issue. The first two solutions are quite simple and easy to follow while the 3rd one is a bit technical. Just try the first two options and see if the Xbox app keeps closing or not then try the last solution.

Fix 1 – Delete Xbox Live messages from Xbox One console

Some users reported that deleting Xbox Live messages from inbox solved this issue on Windows 10. Following are the steps to delete the Xbox Live messages.

  1. Press Windows key and type in ‘xbox’. Select the first result to open Xbox app on Windows 10.
  2. After the app opens, on the right page, select 3rd option Messages.
  3. Delete all messages from here. We have already deleted messages so that’s why there isn’t anything here.
  4. If you are somehow unable to delete messages from Xbox app on Windows 10, you can delete Xbox Live messages from Xbox One using SmartGlass app.
  5. After you have deleted all messages, log out of Xbox app by following the steps below:
    1. On the left page, select the last option Settings.
    2. Under the General tab, you will see your account details.
    3. Under Account heading, click on Sign out.
  6. Close Xbox app. Wait for few minutes and then open the app again. Your issue should be fixed by now.

Fix 2 – Make changes in AMD Catalyst Control Center

This fix works for users who are using AMD Radeon graphics card. There is a slight chance, in the case where Xbox app closes immediately in Windows 10, that AMD Crossfire is creating such issues. In this case, simply disable dual mode by going in Catalyst Control Center. Follow the steps below to disable dual mode in AMD Catalyst Control Center.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings.
  2. The above step will open your graphics card settings. From there, click on Radeon Additional Settings.
  3. A new window will open similar to the one shown below.
  4. From the above window, from the left pane, expand Gaming section and select AMD Radeon™ Dual Graphics option.
  5. In the right pane, select Disable AMD Radeon Dual Graphics option.
  6. Click on Apply and close Catalyst Control Center.

Restart your system and now open Xbox app and see if it still crashes or closes immediately. If it happens again, move to next fix.

Fix 3 – Launch Xbox app in Safe Mode

This step is a bit technical for some users, however, if you follow the steps carefully, there’s nothing to worry about. The trick is to launch Xbox app in Safe Mode in Windows 10. If Xbox app crashes immediately in Windows 10 even after trying the above fixes, this one will work for you.

  1. Make sure to open this URL in another device like a smartphone or another system as you need to restart your system.
  2. Restart your system. As soon as you see the initial loading screen of your system, start pressing F8 repeatedly till you enter Advanced Boot Options.
  3. Once you enter, select Safe Mode with Networking option.
  4. Wait for the system to start.
  5. Once the Windows boot up and you are on the desktop, don’t worry if your desktop looks a bit weird and the resolution is all messed up. Safe Mode actually disables a lot of software and background services. Only necessary Microsoft services run. This is done to prevent any 3rd-party software or application malfunctioning the system.
  6. While in Safe Mode, launch Xbox app. If it works perfectly, restart your system and your issue will be resolved by now.
